Anglesey Smallholder

About

About Me

I’m a computer programmer by nature, however I have always loved the countryside and the animals within.  In the Spring 2008, I decided to take my life in a new direction.  I left my job in London and bought my very own smallholding in North Wales.

I have no experience with animals aside from occasionally feeding my parents’ dog.  I don’t know a thing about gardening.  My experience with home repairs is minimal at best.  I don’t know if I can do this… but I’m going to try.

About The Farm

I bought a lovely traditional farmhouse, stone built in 1820, with a later addition around 1950.  It has a few outbuildings: a gigantic dairy, currently being used for storage; a 2-storey stable; a shed; and a pig sty.

About The Animals

It wouldn’t be a farm without animals, so let me introduce them:

Chickens

The Three Chickens

Victoria is a wonderful little sheepie.  Also known as “big fl00fy cloud”, she actually came with the house.  The previous occupier could not take Victoria with when she left, and so she came to us.  She’s seriously spoilt.  She has her own stone built house, and gets fed special sheep food.  (All the other sheep nearby live out in the open, and eat grass!)

The three chickens were a fantastic gift from our neighbours next door – the chicken farmers!  It’s a big farm of barn-raised chickens – I can’t quite remember the figure, I think he may have said they have 14,000 birds.  Fortunately they’re far enough down the road that the smell doesn’t reach us!  The birds are white leghorns, and are prolific layers.  We have had many a tasty omelette and fried egg courtesy of them.

I hope you enjoy my blog!
